Get Involved on the UT Tyler Campus

Make the most of your time at UT Tyler by getting involved on campus. You can pursue a hobby or make like-minded friends by joining a student organization, club, or sports team. Or, if you like structure, community service, and being part of a large family-like environment, consider joining a fraternity or sorority. Whatever your interests and motivations, there’s a place for you at UT Tyler.

Get Involved with Student Organizations

There are nearly 100 student organizations to join at UT Tyler. Interested in pursuing your academic interests outside the classroom? Check out Biologists of Tyler, Texas, or the Studio Art and Art History Association. If you’re more into politics and social reform, you might like to get involved with the College Democrats or College Republicans, or join the Student Government Association to enact campus change. But if getting involved on campus means something more recreational and fun to you, join the Ultimate Frisbee team or Theatre Club.

And this is only the beginning. UT Tyler has dozens more organizations in progress for you to be involved with. Soon, you’ll be able to join the Math Club, Tyler Collegiate Model United Nations, the UNICEF Club, or the Rock Climbing Club. See the full list of organizations to join here.

Join Greek Life

Ever consider Greek life? Joining a brotherhood or sisterhood is an amazing way to be part of a strong support system and lifelong network. You’ll learn skills in leadership, be involved in community service, and organize events like Greek Week.

UT Tyler is home to six fraternities and sororities. The three sororities at UT Tyler are Alpha Chi Omega, Delta Gamma, and Delta Sigma Theta. Currently, there are two active fraternities: Delta Sigma Phi and Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

To be invited into Greek life, you’ll need to go through a formal recruitment process (sometimes known as “rush”). There is usually a registration fee and other requirements to meet, as well as a meet and greet, where you can talk to current members and learn if Greek life is for you. Join a Sports Team

Friends who sweat together stay together. The UT Tyler Patriots have 15 organized sports teams for both men and women, including. To join the UT Tyler Patriots ranks, go here and see if they have a team for you.

In 2017, the softball team and individual participants in women’s outdoor/indoor track and field were crowned NCAA National Champions. Men’s cross country, baseball, and softball teams, women’s golf, and men’s tennis have all taken home American Southwest Championship trophies.

If you’re not the most competitive spirit but still love to have fun, you can join an intramural team or sports club. The Outdoor Adventures program gets students involved with nontraditional activities like skydiving, rock climbing, paintball, mountain biking, and disc golf.

Visit the Cowan Center

The Cowan Center is UT Tyler’s premier venue for professional musicals, shows, and performances. They feature a constantly rotating selection of world-renowned performers and Broadway shows, including Yo-Yo Ma, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, and The Wizard of Oz. And best of all? UT Tyler students get a hefty discount — sometimes up to 50% off the standard ticket price.

Visit the Patriot Zone

The Patriot Zone is the fun hub of the UT Tyler campus. Billiards, video games, board games, shuffleboard, table tennis, air hockey, you name it. It’s a good place to relax or mingle between classes. This is where you’ll find a fully outfitted stage and performance center for events like spoken word, musicals, video game competitions, and socials. Check out the gaming library for favorites on the Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360. You can play on their two 42-inch TVs in the gaming lounge.

Hosting a campus event? Go to the Patriot Creation Station. It’s fully stocked with poster board, colored paper, other creative tools, markers, and pens — free to use with your student ID.
